Art is linked to the other areas of the curriculum in the Preparatory School. It is used as a tool to extend the childrens learning. They can explore their own creativity and ideas in a practical way. It is based on the skills in the National Curriculum.
We aim to:
- Develop a childs creativity and imagination through visual, tactile and direct experience.
- Allow the children to communicate their ideas, feelings and emotions using different materials and processes through an understanding of colour, form, texture and pattern.
- Explore the work of artists, craftspeople and designers to understand the use of art in society and culture.
- Provide the children with judgemental, aesthetic and a practical awareness of the ability to shape their environment.
The children are given the opportunity to learn how to use different materials and explore different techniques to express their own ideas and imagination through drawing, paint, sculpture and modelling, textiles, mosaic, collage, pen and ink, pastels, batik, silk painting and printing.
The Prep school also runs an Art Club every week after school from Year 2 to Year 6 which allows further opportunity for the children to explore their ideas and perfect their techniques in a less formal environment.
