The study of Art and Design plays an important role at Combe Bank. It provides an emotional and creative balance for all pupils regardless of ability. This enables the individual to develop their visual awareness and their skills. The department offers drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles and three-dimensional work. These skills are covered in years seven to nine. Our aim is to provide pupils with critical awareness, giving them the vocabulary and capability to enjoy and decipher cultural activities in our image-orientated world.
At the end of year nine pupils can choose to take GCSE Art and Design as an option with the examination at the end of year eleven. We offer A Level Art and Design as well as Textiles.
We run art clubs for all pupils as part of the enrichment programme and organise art visits for all pupils.
Pupils, therefore, become major contributors rather than passive recipients and, as art is partly about self-expression, they become more responsible for their own learning and direction far beyond the years spent at Combe Bank.
