The Geography Department consists of two experienced teachers who both have a specific area of expertise within the academic discipline. Although the subject is compulsory in years 7 to 9, it is optional at both GCSE and A Level. There is an excellent uptake of the subject at these levels within the school. The academic results of the Department are consistently high at both GCSE and A Level.
The value of fieldwork and enquiry learning is fundamental to this department. Care with presentation and pride in producing good written work are encouraged in a happy atmosphere.
There is a commitment to a full appreciation of people's inter-relationship with the environment with physical and human geography receiving equal emphasis.
The active learning methods ensure that the environment becomes the classroom with girls out and about in the local area, investigating rivers, or south coast beaches collecting data. Field trips are arranged for classes throughout the school.
The Department has two pleasant classrooms with excellent resources to enable the use of ICT. The Department continues to develop its schemes of work so that all students have the opportunity to improve their geographical knowledge, often through the use of key skills like ICT.
