With five spacious and well-equipped laboratories, the Science Department provides a pleasant and hard working atmosphere. Pupils study in small groups and follow a full programme of practical activities.
At GCSE some girls sit for the three AQA separate sciences while others take AQA Science and Additional Science. All Sciences are taught by specialist teachers and girls achieve outstanding results.
Those progressing to AS and A2 levels continue to benefit from individual attention within stimulating groups. Among recent examination successes have been girls studying Engineering, Natural Sciences and Computer Science at Cambridge, Physics & Space Science at Southampton, Medicine at Nottingham, St George's Hospital and Trinity College Dublin, Physiotherapy and Nursing at King's College London and Veterinary Science at the Royal Veterinary College.
Outside visits and use of the extensive grounds for ecological work help to provide a full scientific education. Regular visits are made to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' annual lectures and to the University of Kent's Christmas lectures. Girls have also benefited from the visit of lab in a lorry hosted by the Institute of Physics and Qinetic (formally the Ministry of Defence, Fort Halsted). The Department also runs a free Science performance for our feeder schools in October. Invited speakers have been 'Newton', 'Galileo' and 'Lavoisier' as well as the New Kinetic Theatre's 'Electricity Show' and the Bunsen Towers Mystery. There is also a weekly science club.
The Science block also has a networked ICT suite as well as interactive whiteboards in four of the laboratories.
